I found that my dog Brodie was always burning off his hind pads from sliding on the mats coming into the box and when he came back to receive his tug toy.

Elastic wrap works but is costly compared to a pair of leather skid boots. The wrap generally must be replaced during the day as well

Some dogs can use a same pair for an entire season. Unfortunately Brodie is not one of those dogs.
